Let x,y,s∈Rx, y, s \in \mathbb{R}x,y,s∈R with x≥0x \geq 0x≥0 and y≥0y \geq 0y≥0. Then for the real power function,

xsys=(yx)−s.\frac{x^{s}}{y^{s}} = \left(\frac{y}{x}\right)^{-s}.ysxs=(xy)−s.

The nonnegativity hypotheses ensure that the real powers xsx^sxs, ysy^sys, and (y/x)±s(y/x)^{\pm s}(y/x)±s are all governed by the usual exponential-logarithm formula (with the standard conventions at 000), so that the exponent laws combine cleanly.

This rewriting lemma is part of a small toolkit for shuffling real powers between numerator and denominator; in the zeta-bound estimates it is used to normalize expressions like xσ/Nσx^{\sigma}/N^{\sigma}xσ/Nσ into a single power of a ratio before applying monotonicity or integrability facts.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
